.... and it will be in a 1978 2-stroke 550cc Jimny. I have ZERO offroading experience. What do you guys recommend? I will also bring a more modern turbo 550cc Jimny along with a behemoth on wheels: a lifted turbo diesel manual Mitsubishi Delica! But the 2-stroke Jimny will be my first one :)

Well it’s a park so it won’t be hardcore or anything... There will be people to help me I’m sure :)

I have a manual winch in another car... I'll take it :)

You really should find people to ride with. Makes it much easier to learn, to get unstuck, to figure out what’s wrong if something breaks, to find the best approach for a tough obstacle...plus it’s more fun, especially with radios.

And if you’re seriously hurt, you don’t want to have to hope that another vehicle will eventually come through.

Momentum is your friend.

When in doubt, throttle out. 60% of the time, this will work, every time.

Know which side your airbox is on. If you’re going through a water crossing and are able to put one side of the vehicle  a bit higher up on the ground or rut, make sure that side is the same side that has the airbox on it. Do not want to hydrolock on your first outting.

Good advice.

Also while in water, don’t shift gears if you can avoid it. When the clutch separates it allows water in, which can bring mud and other contaminants.

Send it.  With enough application of throttle, anything is possible.

It’s a “park”... By park, I don’t mean Yosemite or something like that in US scale... It’s about the size of a few stadiums and you can walk everywhere. I’ll be with a friend to play with the more modern Jimny and the Delica, but I should be alone with the old Jimny... That is the park: https://en.japantravel.com/aichi/sanage-adventure-field/646

Not somewhere I have to worry about bringing water and food in case I get stranded haha

No water crossings there... It's a safe place to practice. There should be people to help if needed. But yeah, based on videos with Jimmy, full throttle seems to work best haha

Seems to be the way Jimny are driven lol... Not sure about the Delica though...

Winching tip: put a towel or something over the middle of the cable. In the event that the cable breaks free or snaps the weight of the towel will redirect the energy in the cable towards the ground and help stop  it from whipping through the air towards your face.

Gotcha. Even in the eastern U.S. our off-road  parks are large enough to go missing for a while.

Don’t be surprised if you get a dent or scratch. It comes with the territory. Don’t take it too seriously, get stuck so you can experience getting unstuck, take some water maybe some snacks. Even though you are driving there are times you get out and walk around. Take some photos, get a Icy Hot Stunters pose.

Low range is a thing. And sometimes it is much more effective and easier than just sending it. Even in a little Suzuki.

Others in the comments seem to be under the impression than the Jimny is not a real off road vehicle. It has a low-range transfer case, and it can crawl. You don’t need to carelessly bump it over obstacles with lots of throttle.

Coincidentally, I saw a video of this park just a few days ago:

Yeah it’s very much as capable as Jeeps... it’s just more prone to falling on its side :D

L ove it! The first-gen Jimnys are one of my favorite off-roaders, especially in the metal hardbody form!
